Born in the Same Decade: Christmas in the 1930s

Reflecting on December, the festive month, it feels only right that we explore a little into what Christmas was like in the 1930s. What are some old traditions that took place back then that didn’t last, and which ones do we still have that survived the test of time? Christmas is a huge holiday for many families and cultures; it has a deep religious meaning for some, and for others it’s about family. The Christmas cards from those we don’t hear from, the merry greetings from strangers on the streets, the groups of people singing outside in the freezing cold, and of course getting our children excited for the only man who is allowed to break into our homes in the middle of the night. Christmas is a bizarre yet amazing time of year that brings joy and loved ones together, and for those without loved ones it brings a relaxing day off or another typical day at work, as the holidays spent with family aren’t always as relaxing as hoped for…
