His films have not only taught audiences how to see, but they have also taught them how to feel. And as he turns his gaze toward the stars once more, he reminds us that wonder, even tempered by wisdom, still burns at the heart of cinema.

If you had told the proprietors of the independent Prestwick Cinema Company Limited in April 1935, when the finishing touches were being made to their brand-new cinema before the grand opening ceremony, that the building would still stand 91 years later they would have thought you were mad. If you'd told them their cinema would, a century on, be the only cinema in Scotland to feature a mighty Wurlitzer cinema organ then they would have thought you were a danger to society.

For this Born in the Same Decade article, we are going to do something a little different this time. We are going to look into notable figures whose were born in the same year as our beloved cinema. In 1935, approximately 89,000 people were born in Scotland. A low number in comparison to the 2 million approximate births in the United States for the same year.

Did those of you who joined us for our special Repair Shop open weekend enjoy the live feed from the projection room? It’s still hard to believe our original projectors are working. It seems like no time at all since I was shovelling up debris from the floor and looking out through the viewing porthole over the top of two squash courts, to a screen which no longer existed. How things have changed.

We're delighted to announce the full schedule for the Pop-up Museum open weekends has now been announced for the remainder of 2026! You can now book from April to December to plan your trip to the Broadway in advance, starting with this weekend. We are open on Saturday 25th and Sunday 26th, with tickets available to book in advance, or pay at the ticket booth on arrival.

The Broadway is now on Letterboxd! Our doors won’t open for a little while yet, but there’s no better place to begin building our audience and our identity than on Letterboxd. What is Letterboxd? Letterboxd is a global social network for grass-roots film discussion and discovery, where users can create a free-account to track, rate, record and share opinion about film. Why Letterboxd? Letterboxd is where film will live for us before we open!

We are over the moon to announce the arrival of an original Wurlitzer cinema organ, donated by a private collector, for installation when the Broadway’s restoration is completed. Incredibly, this will ensure the Broadway will become the only cinema in Scotland to host a fully operational cinema organ… and in Scotland’s largest cinema auditorium!

This is the future of cinema, he thought.

As you all now know, last year we had the pleasure of hosting the BBC’s The Repair Shop On the Road here at the Broadway to help restore our classic 35mm projectors to full working order.
