Mood manipulation.
Film is an illusion. The job of the projectionist is to transition the paying audience member from the pavement to their seat and beyond. Every detail is critical, from the selection of house music to the colour of the theatre lighting. All elements combine to create an immersive cinemagoing experience.
Digital revolution.
The cinema industry undertook a 'digital changeover' in the 2010s and the majority of projectionists lost their jobs. Analogue film equipment was scrapped, yet these items are part of Scotland's cinema history.
The moving image.
Never before in human history have we been surrounded by so many moving images - TikTok, Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, films and television... Despite this, the art of film presentation is passing into obscurity. At the Broadway we are rekindling the art of projection and passing on skills which we believe are still relevant today.
