The Foyer
The Broadway Cinema’s interior was spacious and bright, with touches of luxury and exoticism throughout.
Guests entered across a golden terrazzo floor, and golden paint made the foyer walls sparkle. Look around - the foyer’s original wooden, glazed front doors and ticket booth survive today. The linoleum flooring still has
stiletto heel marks, generations later!
1980s panelling and false ceilings have now been removed, revealing a tobacco-stained ceiling with Art Deco light fittings, and on the lower walls, dark wood panelling lined with strips of chrome.
Above you, a large lightwell provided views to the upper floors, and a view of the foyer from above.
Many members of the community remember seeing the Broadway's manager, Mr. James Ross, standing outside his office in his suit, watching patrons purchasing their tickets down below. It was also a useful spot to
wait for your date to arrive!
