The Stage
When squash court three was demolished in February 2025, the full scale of the Broadway's original stage was revealed, for the first time in almost 50 years.
The Broadway's stage was over 16ft deep, with a proscenium opening over 36ft wide. Gentlemen's and Ladies’ Dressing Rooms (located in the basement) can be accessed from either side. These facilities meant
the cinema could present other forms of entertainment, though it didn't do so regularly.
The original Academy-format screen was situated to the rear of the stage. The original side-opening curtains were described as crimson and two shades of grey, with gold horizontal strips. In 1956, the Broadway received upgrades to Cinemascope, with a new wide screen installed, and a vertically raising festoon curtain.
The screen you see now was erected soon after the stage was revealed in 2025. It originally wowed audiences at the Magnum Leisure Centre in Irvine!
