The Broadway Auditorium and Pop-up Museum Opens

The Broadway's auditorium is showing film to paying customers for the first time in 50 years. Let's let that sink in for a second.

We may not be ready for full feature-length films yet, but the magic of film is back on the Broadway's screen as an integral part of what has become one of Ayrshire's most unique and immersive visitor experiences.

The Broadway Pop-up Museum has already taken 300 visitors on a journey through the Broadway's history and its place within the golden age of cinema. Two sold-out weekends have delivered incredibly positive feedback, powerful stories, and emotional reunions with your very own cinema. It is always worth a reminder that the Broadway belongs to you! As members of the project and our community you collectively own Scotland's largest single cinema auditorium, and thanks to an armada of amazing Broadway volunteers, it is now back at the heart of Main Street for 2026!

Let's take a moment too to recognise some of the achievements and inclusions that have made our visitor experience so very special.

The Pop-up Museum has been developed using accreditation-standard principles throughout, with guidance provided by executive advisors of museum collections and the utmost care given to object handling, conditions management, and of course the curation of the exhibits themselves. Partly funded by Bòrd na Gàidhlig, the Broadway now hosts one of Scotland's only fully bilingual museum experiences, with the feedback from Gaelic learners and speakers overwhelmingly positive and the translations provided by local volunteers. The short show reel shown on-screen has also been carefully curated to transport viewers back to the golden age of cinema, immersing all who visit in the incredible surroundings of a thousand-seater Art Deco palace for an experience that feels like you've been transported back in time.

Don't just take our word for it too! The following are quotes from visitors to our opening weekends:

"Brilliant preservation of cinema history. Well done!" - Brian, Ayr

"Very excited to come back and visit down the line. I love nostalgia! Just a matter of time..." - Jennifer, Glasgow

"Wonderful to see the old cinema once more having visited it during 50s and 60s. Good luck!" - Ella, Prestwick

"Thank you so much - ceud mìle taing! We really enjoyed our visit and particularly the Gàidhlig dual-language signage." - Nicola and Colin, Stewarton

"Fabulous to see what's behind the doors we pass every day!" - Carol, Prestwick

"An amazing piece of history. It was very interesting. You're doing a wonderful job!" - Christina, Troon

We couldn't have asked for a better opening to our new visitor experience and we can't wait to open again soon! Whether you've have or haven't visited yet too don't worry, new additions and improvements are on their way soon as we continue to expand Ayrshire's newest visitor attraction.

We aren't stopping here!
