Broadway Youth Film Society Hosts Four Screenings Supported by Film Hub Scotland
We were absolutely thrilled to host four film screenings with the Broadway Youth Film Society across the month of September at the Broadway Cinema Experience.
The films shown were created and co-hosted by all four branches of the Film Society, including our two newest expansions to Carrick Academy, and Girvan Academy! The young people in communities across North and South Carrick can now become members of the Broadway Youth Film Society and get engaged with all aspects of film, including the preservation of the art of film projection.

The first of the four screenings were held with our Prestwick Academy and Ayr Academy branches on Saturday 12th September, and both were held in 35mm for the first feature films in the format since 1976!
The Firm (1999), chosen by Prestwick Academy, was followed by The Terminal (2004), chosen by Ayr Academy. The pupils from Prestwick and Ayr attended on the day and supported our team by volunteering across the afternoon. The screenings also provided the perfect introduction to 35mm film for the future students of the Broadway's projection workshops!
With the projector directly behind the audience, it also provided a wonderfully rare cinemagoing experience to see the projection team at work and enjoy a unique insight into the format, with the sound of the projector creating an evocative soundtrack!
We were also delighted to announce and advertise at the events that all four screenings were funded by Film Hub Scotland, with support from the BFI, the National Lottery, and Screen Scotland.
The second two screenings were hosted as part of our September weekend of the Broadway Pop-Up Museum, with Carrick Academy choosing The Jungle Book (1967), and Girvan Academy choosing Juno (2007). The afternoon provided the first opportunity for the Film Society members of both schools to visit the Broadway! It was a joyous day for all who attended, and we're so incredibly grateful for the professionalism, enthusiasm, and support from the all Film Society pupils who attended. We can't wait to see what the next few months will bring for the Film Society project, and for the future of the Broadway Cinema Experience in 2027, with September's screenings providing the perfect trial run for a full public film programme at the Broadway in the future!
We would like to make some special thanks for helping to make the screenings extra special. Firstly, to veteran projectionist Ben Wales who supported at the September weekend with our own chief projectionist, Guy, to deliver demonstrations in 35mm to our Pop-Up Museum visitors and to the pupils of Carrick Academy and Girvan Academy. The next thank you goes to Glasgow Prestwick Airport for the donation of two baggage trolleys for set dressing for The Terminal on the 12th, another to our neighbours at McIntyre's Barberista and Vito's restaurant for offering their toilet facilities to our guests, and the last goes out to Ellie from Girvan Academy who helped deliver the film introduction to Juno with our event manager and Young Start Co-ordinator, Kyle.

The introduction of film screenings to the Broadway Cinema Experience this summer has been a joy for everyone involved with the project.
The return of film to Prestwick's cinema was 50 years in the making, and this first phase of operations at the Broadway has provided a wonderful opportunity for everyone to experience a historic milestone in the journey of our stoic survivor! We will now begin planning ahead for the next phases, with major announcements on the future of the Broadway Cinema Experience and the Broadway Youth Film Society fast approaching on the horizon.
We would to give one last thanks to all members of the Film Society who joined from all four schools. Their generation is the Broadway's future audience and we will continue to ensure that their cinema is built by and delivers for them for generations to come. Here's to an exciting 2027 that will be here before we know it!
Until then, the last chances to experience the Broadway Pop-Up Museum will be Saturday 24th and Sunday 25th October, and Saturday 28th and Sunday 29th November, and you can book now for both weekends by clicking the button below. See you there, Prestwick!

Hi, I'd like to book for the Pop-Up Museum, but the 'Book here!' button isn't working for me!
